Faculty Development
The Center for Faculty
Development offers individualized advice
and assistance to SOM faculty members,
interns, residents or TA's seeking to
improve areas of their instruction.
Arrangement for any of the services
listed below can be made by calling
the Center at 856-566-6738. These services
are private and confidential. If the
participant requests, the Center will
provide written acknowledgement that
these services are being utilized to
the department chair or instructional
supervisor.
Services:
Review of Student Rating of Instruction
Responses - Upon request, the 'Director
will review the student's responses
to instruction and make suggestions
regarding techniques for improvement.
It is most helpful, in these situations,
if complete sets of responses for 3-5
classes are submitted for review.
Assistance with development of course
materials - We can help new course directors
with course design, implementation and
assessment of their curriculum. Guidance
in instructional/pedagogical methods
and learning styles could also be provided.
Review of Course Materials, Syllabi,
and Course Assessment Instruments (Tests,
Quizzes, Assignments) - Instructional
personnel can also submit course materials
to the Center which will provide a written
critique of those materials based upon
current thinking regarding testing and
measurement, syllabus development, and
course design. Upon request, the Center
will also seek comments from outside
reviewers from related disciplines at
other institutions.
Classroom Visitations or Videotaping
- The Center will observe and/or videotape
class sessions for SOM faculty members.
Any videotapes remain the property of
the instructor and will be reviewed
by the Center Director, if requested.
Upon request, reports of classroom visitations
and/or videotape reviews of teaching
will be forwarded to the department
chair or instructional supervisor.
Instructional Development
focuses on the student, the course,
or the curriculum, which can include:
- Course design
- Curriculum design
- Course and curriculum implementation
- Evaluation of above
Expected Major Outcomes:
- Improved academic effectiveness
and efficiency
- Maximized resource utilization
- Improved learning
- Increased faculty and student satisfaction
with courses and programs
